copepod
harpacticoid

Harpacticoid (har-packed-ee-koid) copepods are often associated with sediments and detritus. Unlike the water column calanoid copepods, they do not have long antenna, but do have more elongate flexible bodies.   This image was taken from a sedimented sample of seawater taken near the shoreline in the region of Woods Hole, in Vineyard Sound; the collecting and photographic team included David Patterson, Linda Amaral Zettler, Mike Peglar and Tom Nerad. Image copyright: David Patterson, Linda Amaral Zettler, Mike Peglar and Tom Nerad, image used under license to MBL (micro*scope).
